Martial Arts Training Schools
Our guiding principle is that all Martial Arts are basically the same in their mode of operation and as such we practice a number of traditional Japanese martial arts (budo) as one art form.
Tai-sabaki is body movement: a key element of our style and is used extensively in our practice to allow us to develop soft flowing movements to avoid strikes, holds and multiple attackers.
Strikes and Covers - all of our atemi-waza (strikes) and covers (or blocks) are derived from our kata. Strikes are applied in a fluid manner directed to openings in the opponents guard whilst covers are used to control a opponent and shut down his/her options.
Application of kata moves (bunkai) gives an insight into the fight sequence portrayed within each form. Groups of two or more participants will take turns to run through the kata sequence.
Kumi-tai is the core of the style and is the main arena where all our techniques come together. At the beginner level it is performed at a slow pace allowing the student to experiment safely and learn how to deal with a variety of attacks. The emphasis is always on safety and learning, we often refer to this as ‘play fighting’. As such we are not learning to fight but we are learning the skills of fighting.
